Five Psychological Roadblocks To Seeing A Financial Planner And Why Not To Act On Them
By Paula Charles, LMHC, LADAC
Be fearful about money it means safety and security.
Safety and security are found in our "primitive
brain." Fear
lives in the primitive brain and is driven by adrenalin.
When you live in fear you are anxious and on guard. Your
cognitive or thinking brain is literally blocked from functioning,
and you cannot plan your financial future. Don't
act on this because a financial planner can help
you plan and relax by creating profitable financial habits all
this bypasses fear-based thinking!
Don't become educated about your finances. Avoid
reading or learning about financial matters. This will
ensure step number one! You might be saying "I don't
understand this stuff anyway and I don't make a lot
of money so what good will it do?" Don't
act on this. This strategy wastes valuable time time
when you could be on your way to building financial security.
Educating yourself and addressing the concern breaks the
cycle of worry and fear in the brain.
Don't break the family code. What did you learn
about money from your parents? Scrimping? Worrying? Fretting?
Did they pass this onto you? Don't act on
this. If you break the code you will learn new
financial ways to plan and your finances will grow...and
relax.
Don't save. What's the use? Your money has
power. It is ominous and can cause embarrassment and shame. Don't
act on this. If you learn how to save, you can
turn the tables and make your money work for you.
Don't get to know a financial planner. She could
help you face all the above with facts and figures. She
can also help your self and money grow because you are
addressing a critical issue. ACT ON THIS!!
